{"id":3971,"date":"2017-12-30T03:34:33","date_gmt":"2017-12-30T03:34:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gardenescapades.com\/blog\/?p=3971"},"modified":"2017-12-30T03:34:33","modified_gmt":"2017-12-30T03:34:33","slug":"let-the-seed-starting-begin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/gardenescapades.com\/blog\/2017\/12\/30\/let-the-seed-starting-begin\/","title":{"rendered":"Let the Seed Starting Begin!"},"content":{"rendered":"<body><p><\/p>I ordered some seeds from a new company this year, along with the companies I typically use.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hpsseed.com\/\">HPS (Horticultural Products and Services Division)<\/a> sent me an impressive catalog.\u00a0 I took it to the cabin and picked out a\u00a0 few things.\u00a0 They are geared toward the commercial market (nurseries, etc.), but they have a few items in lesser quantities.\u00a0 Here is what I ordered, and they landed at home today:\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hpsseed.com\/PIF\/05286\/FunkyPinkHybridBegonia.jpg?w=474&#038;ssl=1\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hpsseed.com\/P\/05286\/Funky+Pink+Hybrid+Begonia\">Begonia \u201cFunky Pink\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If I\u2019m lucky enough to get some of these seeds started, I plan to grow the plants on the back patio.\u00a0 I read directions on the Begonia Society site and plan to do my best to sterilize and use sterile medium and grow the plants close together.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hpsseed.com\/PIF\/05598\/SuperParfaitRaspberryDianthus.jpg?w=474&#038;ssl=1\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hpsseed.com\/P\/05598\/Parfait+Raspberry+Hybrid+Dianthus\">Parfait Raspberry Hybrid Dianthus<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This dianthus cultivar\u00a0has really large, showy flowers and will look great in patio pots and in the garden.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hpsseed.com\/PIF\/06801\/BambinoMarigold.jpg?w=474&#038;ssl=1\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hpsseed.com\/P\/06801\/Bambino+Marigold\">Bambino Marigold<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For patio pots and interplanting with veggies in and around the raised beds.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hpsseed.com\/PIF\/06983\/MagicBlotchMixHybridMimulus.jpg?w=474&#038;ssl=1\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hpsseed.com\/P\/06983\/Magic+Blotch+Mix+Hybrid+Mimulus\">Mimulus Magic Blotch Mix<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m crazy for monkey flowers, but I\u2019ve had limited success raising them from seeds.\u00a0 Since these are pelleted, I\u2019m hopeful I\u2019ll be a bit more successful.\u00a0 \u00a0The goal is to place some in pots on the back patio and maybe some next to the pond, as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I ordered some seeds from a new company this year, along with the companies I typically use.\u00a0 HPS (Horticultural Products and Services Division) sent me an impressive catalog.\u00a0 I took it to the cabin and picked out a\u00a0 few things.\u00a0 They are geared toward the commercial market (nurseries, etc.), but they have a few items &hellip;
