{"id":9110,"date":"2020-10-27T04:18:21","date_gmt":"2020-10-27T04:18:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gardenescapades.com\/blog\/?p=9110"},"modified":"2020-10-27T04:18:21","modified_gmt":"2020-10-27T04:18:21","slug":"plant-a-day-2020-day-274-blueberries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/gardenescapades.com\/blog\/2020\/10\/27\/plant-a-day-2020-day-274-blueberries\/","title":{"rendered":"Plant-A-Day 2020 (Day 274) Blueberries"},"content":{"rendered":"<body>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I purchased two blueberry varieties via mail order about ten years ago and planted them on the street-side of the orchard garden.\u00a0 One of them remains there, while the other one possibly has faded away.\u00a0 This original plants blooms and gets a few berries each year, but it is not ideally situated\u2014it is crowded out by raspberries and other plants.\u00a0 I added another type of blueberry, the low-growing type that came as twigs with a few roots from an eBay seller.\u00a0 These I tucked under the columnar apple trees in that garden, not expecting to see them again.\u00a0 Surprisingly, they came up the following spring and every spring since, though they do not bloom as of yet.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">About four years ago, I added another blueberry from a mail-order source. \u00a0It was a sad-looking stick and it has taken until now to really put on some growth.\u00a0 It bloomed the last two years, but I haven\u2019t seen any berries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"474\" height=\"632\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/gardenescapades.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/IMG_1030-2.jpg?resize=474%2C632\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9112\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/gardenescapades.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/IMG_1030-2-scaled.jpg?resize=768%2C1024 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/gardenescapades.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/IMG_1030-2-scaled.jpg?resize=225%2C300 225w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/gardenescapades.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/IMG_1030-2-scaled.jpg?resize=1152%2C1536 1152w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/gardenescapades.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/IMG_1030-2-scaled.jpg?resize=1536%2C2048 1536w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/gardenescapades.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/IMG_1030-2-scaled.jpg?w=1920 1920w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/gardenescapades.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/IMG_1030-2-scaled.jpg?w=948 948w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/gardenescapades.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/IMG_1030-2-scaled.jpg?w=1422 1422w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because my blueberries haven\u2019t produced many berries, their garden value has come more in the form of autumn color.
